Skilled Visa

The skill stream of Australia’s Migration Programme is specifically designed to target migrants who have skills or outstanding abilities that will contribute to the Australian economy. The migration to Australia of skilled people with the qualifications and attributes to succeed helps address specific skill shortages in Australia and enhances the size and skill level of the Australian labour force. DIBP have a system where highly competent and experienced Applicants will be able to apply for skilled migration to Australia. This means shorter queues, and faster processing times for applications. This will enable people to reach their migration outcome much quicker than before. In the skill stream, priority processing is currently given to applicants who are migrating to a regional area, sponsored by employers or nominated by a state or territory government under a State Migration Plan

To be eligible you must:

  • Be invited to apply after lodgement of your EOI

  • Be younger than 45 years of age when you are invited to apply

  • Nominate an occupation that matches your skills and qualifications and is on the relevant skilled occupation list

  • Have your skills assessed by the relevant assessment authority as suitable for your nominated occupation

  • Have a competency in English

  • Score at least 65 on the points test

  • Meet the health and character requirements

  • Subclass 189 Skilled Independent Visa

  • Subclass 190 State Nominated Visa

  • Subclass 489 Regional Sponsored Visa

  • Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate Visa
